7 Incredible Things to do on Norfolk Island in the Summer

If you are planning a holiday to Norfolk Island this summer, there are plenty of things to do.

About Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island is a small island in the Pacific Ocean between Australia, New-Zealand, and New- Caledonia. It is located 1412 kilometres east of the mainland Australia. As a member of the external commonwealth territory of Australia, it has a population of 1,748 inhabitants having its capital as Kingston. Here are some of the top things you can do while on the island.

1. Rent a car and tour the island

One very important thing to note is that there is no public transport on the island. A car is recommended during your stay especially if you are planning on visiting some of the surrounding areas. The speed limit on Norfolk Island is 50 km/hr. Over time you'll also get used to the Norfolk Island wave as you drive your way around.

2. Enjoy the sunset

Puppies point is the most fantastic spot to watch the sunset at Norfolk Island. This phenomenal clifftop area looks out over the sea on the west coast of the island and is located on the road which winds its way around past Anson Bay.

3. Visit the UNESCO world heritage area

Norfolk Island holidays are never complete without visiting the UNESCO world heritage area. Norfolk Island is part of the convict history settlements. It's one of the oldest Australian convict settlement sites listed by UNESCO world heritage.

4. Visit No. 10 Quality Row

Originally built in 1844 during the Second Settlement, this house has been restored to its former glory featuring period furnishings, items uncovered during archaeological digs and displays with information on the subsequent inhabitants of the property.

5. Stop by the Gallery Guava

This is another eye-catching facility. It is full of glass jewellery made from material imported from Italy, and some other local artisans work worth buying.

6. Head out fishing

Your best option for fishing is to book with one of the tour operators via the Visitor's Centre. They will select a day to head out based on weather conditions to try and ensure the best experience for you. Some of the tour operators will also cook-your-catch, allowing you to enjoy the seafood you caught yourself.

7. Tour the national park

Bird enthusiasts love this island as you there are several rare bird species such as the green parrot and boobook owl. The best way to enjoy the park is to take to the tracks. You can drive up to Mount Pitt, but you'll need to walk to Mount Bates which is the highest point of the island.

This lush, beautiful island with sandy beaches, jagged cliffs, and tall pine trees makes for a great destination holiday away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
